secrets lockets

pewter, steel wire, secrets - 2001

Each locket contains someone's secret.
No one has or ever will read the contents of these lockets.
For the duration of the exhibition, lockets were added with new secrets enclosed.
Visitors to the exhibition interested in participating were asked:
To relinquish a secret, privately, to the world...
Write down your secret on a piece of paper, fold it and place it into the locked box.
Every two days, they will be collected and safely encased in a locket.

breathing blues

polyester, vinyl, magnifying glasses, lights, plexiglas, vellum - 2001

Camera obscura projections of video stills from a nighttime train ride in a sound-proofed room.
The lenses were mounted in a heavy curtain causing
the subtle images to move in and out of focus as the air in the room was disturbed.
An entering viewer would cause the visual undulation and the images would slowly reveal themselves
as his/her eyes adjusted to the darkness.
Simultaneity of clarity and vision.
But unless he/she was willing to stand in blackness for two minutes
—waiting—
there would be no image, there would be no piece.
